About Us
Bodissi is a social initiative that seeks to empower women through dance and movement therapy modalities, emphasising classical Indian dance as a means of building awareness and body positivity, drawing attention to the body as a source and site of healing, upliftment, and building stronger interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships.
Bodissi began as a dance project which explored the female body through Odissi. The aim was to empower women through dance, movement and creative expression. This original, contemporary-Odissi dance choreography took inspiration from Rupi Kaur’s poetry and concepts of women’s empowerment, and was accompanied by self-composed music to the lyrics of Rupi Kaur poetry. Bodissi has since grown into a wider exploration of the connection between feminism and creative expression in the Indian context. Bodissi is both traditional and contemporary, taking ancient, traditional dance and giving it new meaning through a modern, feminist lens.
